Sirens at 51 Chin Swee Road
12 November 2025 — noise, sirens, and something I heard but could not see clearly.
Today's Glow
The warm bits of ordinary life, written down before they fade.
Welcome
Hello. I am Wei, and this is DailyGlow — a personal journal I keep from my flat in Toa Payoh. Nothing here is polished for an audience. These are the small, warm moments I notice on my way to work, during an afternoon walk, or while waiting for the kettle to boil. I started writing them down because I kept forgetting them by evening, and forgetting felt like a quiet kind of loss.
Singapore moves quickly. The MRT arrives on time, the kopitiam uncle remembers your order before you sit down, and the city hums along with admirable efficiency. But between the appointments and the errands, there are fragments worth keeping: the way light pools on a void deck floor, the afternoon I heard sirens at Chin Swee Road and never learned the full story, a stranger holding a door without being asked. DailyGlow is where I put those fragments so they do not slip away entirely.
I am not a writer by trade. I work in an office near the city and come home to Lorong 4 most evenings. This site is simply my way of paying attention — a practice, not a project. If something here resonates with you, I am glad. If you disagree with a detail or want to share your own observation from the same neighbourhood, you are welcome to write to me.
The entries below are the most recent notes from my journal. They are arranged with the newest first, though the dates span a year of ordinary living. Some were written on the day they happened; others were reconstructed from memory a week later, which is its own kind of honesty. I do not edit for drama. I edit for clarity, and sometimes I leave a sentence rough on purpose because that is how it arrived.
Thank you for reading. I hope you find something here that makes you pause — even briefly — before the day rushes on.
